'The Sight' has always been an excepted reality in the Hebrides, and one of the most common 'Sights' witnessed is of a phantom funeral procession, often in the small hours, carrying a coffin from the house of a sick individual, or in some cases, the witnesses own home. Doubtless within a short time after a death would occur and the prophecy fullfilled.
Other variations include a mother, whose son is at sea, being plagued at night by the sound of a loud knocking on her front door, then the door would be flung open and the footsteps of 4 men carrying something long and heavy enter, resting the object on the kitchen table with a loud thud. Within days the news of her sons passing would arrive, and soon his coffin would be brought home and set to rest on said table.
